Tyranid Action Phase

At the beginning of their turn the Tyranid player takes 2 Tactical Cards from the top of their Tactical Card pile.  If they exceed their Hand Limit, they must discard cards now.

During this phase the Tyranid player performs actions with their units. An action can be anything from movement, interactions or attacking. They can also play Tactical cards.

Different actions cost different amount of points to perform and each Tyranid unit has a set number of Action Points available to use each turn. They can use any number of these available Action Points but they cannot exceed it.

Reinforcements

The Tyranid player always receives at least 1 Blip reinforcemen. To get more they must use a Tactical card Reinforcement section (see below), but they do not have to if they so wish. Not doing so means they can receive more Tactical Points in the next turn.

Once the number of reinforcement blips has been established, the Tyranid player randomly picks that number of Blip counters from the bag.

The Tyranid player can now secretly look at the counters and place them 1” away at Stealer Entry Areas (see Stealer Entry Areas). This is to show they are incoming, being picked up on the Marines scanners and are an imminent threat.

Incoming blips cannot enter the board this round, as they have not yet reached the entry areas. They show where they will be for the next turn, so the Tyranid player should bear this in mind.

Basic Stealer Actions

Blips at Entry Areas may also be bought onto the board (see Stealer Entry Areas for rules).

In addition to these actions, Tactical cards can be played. Players can play as many Tactical cards as they have in their hand.

Tactical Cards

Tyranid Tactical cards are split into 3 sections:

  • Reinforcements – This section provides reinforcements. (Free or various APs to play, and only one per turn)
  • Tactical This section can contain equipment, special bonuses or favourable environmental effects. (Requires the stated Tactical Points to play)
  • Psychic This section contains Psychic abilities for the Psykers.  (Various APs to play)
  1. Only 1 section can be used when playing a Tactical card. Once used, the card is placed face up next to the Stealer Tactical cards deck.
  2. The Tyranid player can only use 1 card for reinforcements per turn.

The Tyranid player must choose carefully which section to use when playing a card. It may be they were saving a card for one section ability only to be forced at some point in the game to use another section.

If the Tyranids Tactical Card deck runs out, then do the following:

  1. The Marine player takes all of the Tyranids leftover Tactical Cards together with all the discarded Cards and shuffles them.
  2. They then deal the Tyranid player 12 new random cards.
  3. Those 12 cards are shuffled (again) and placed near the Tyranid player.

Incoming Blips

At the end of the Tyranid Action phase, all incoming blips are moved forward so they are now arrived at the Stealer Entry Area. They will be ready to enter the board in the next turn.
