Fire

Fire counter

Fire effects are represented as Fire counters and each counter covers a single game board square. Multiple Fire counters can be used to represent large areas of fire.

  • Blocks Movement into Fire.
  • Blocks LOS (Except Assault Cannon LOS)
  • All units caught within a Fire counter that has just been placed MUST be attacked. The only exception is the Broodlord who automatically survives.
  • The attacking player rolls 1x D6 for each unit within a Fire counter. Tyranid units are killed on a 2+ and Marine units are killed on a 3+.
  • All surviving units may, during their turn, move out of a Fire counter, only if there is a valid empty adjacent square (and if they have enough APs to do so). They are now considered free of the Fire and can carry on performing Actions if they can.
  • All surviving units within a Fire counter that cannot move to a valid adjacent empty square MUST remain still for the duration of the Fire effect. These units cannot perform any Actions or play Tactical cards (This includes the Broodlord).
  • Fire counters remain on the board for the duration of the current turn and are only removed during the Reset phase.
  • Some Tactical cards may alter the duration of Fire.
  • Hard Vacuum alters the duration of Fire.

Sometimes, fire effects can last longer than one turn, when this happens, add the appropriate additional counters on top of each other, so each layer represents a single turn.  This helps with counting the number of turns an effect has lasted.  During the Reset phase, only the top-most layer is removed.

  • Any surviving units within a Fire counter that is lasting more than one turn must have another attack roll made against them to see if they still survive. Do this at the beginning of each new turn where Fire has remained.

Fire on multi-level maps

Fire obeys the effects of gravity and will always fall through Pitfalls or Top Ladders down to the next level below. It will never travel up from below.

Example of fire falling through a Pitfall.
Fire below a Pitfall will never flow upwards.
